Explore the history and philosophy of Yin Yoga, the anatomy of Yin – including vulnerable joints, meridians and yin and yang concepts. You will learn how to combine Yin and Yang yoga in a Hatha class, plus the various themes for Yin classes and linking of Yin yoga postures.

In short, you will learn the fundamentals required to start teaching Yin Yoga classes with confidence, along with safety concerns and pre-existing conditions.
To graduate as a teacher of Yin yoga you need to have successfully undertaken both Yin 1 and Yin 2 Certificate of Completion.

How to safely introduce yin yoga postures into a Hatha class

The topics covered:

  • History and philosophy – the foundations of Yin Yoga
  • Anatomy of Yin – the connective tissue story
  • An introduction to meridians, 5 elements, yin and yang concepts
  • What are yin and yang yoga practices?
  • Combining Yin and Yang yoga in a Hatha class
  • Opportunities in Yin yoga for breathing, mindfulness and meditation practices
  • Safety – How to safely stress connective tissue – how much is too far?
  • Safety – Working with students with pre-existing conditions and the real dangers in yin yoga
  • Knee issues
  • Back and neck issues
  • Pregnancy
  • Hip replacement
  • Hypermobility

Structure of the Workshop

  • 14 hours of weekend contact hours – all yin classes and teaching practice
  • 3 hours – Online lectures (Certificate of Completion only)
  • 8 hours self-study workbooks to include reading, practice, preparation to optimise the weekend workshop (Certificate of Completion only)
  • 2 hour open book written assessment (Certificate of Completion only)

Certificate options

  1. Certification of Attendance: Simply attend the two days for a Certification of Attendance – these hours will count towards your CPD hours
  2. Certificate of Completion: You will also receive the on-line lectures, the pre-study workbook and take a two hour open book assessment and then receive a Certificate of Completion which counts towards your hours of Level 2 training. (*Additional fee applies - see pricing for details)

Dr Jeff Lou is also a key presenter who started a yoga and meditation practice with his mother as a child more than 30 years ago. Over this time, he has studied and practiced extensively in styles such as Hatha, Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Yin, Anusara and Vinyasa. Jeff is a registered Chinese Medicine Doctor with the Ministry of Health in the People's Republic of China, he also holds a PhD in TCM from the top Chinese Medicine research institute in the world (CATCM). In addition, he is a principal lecture with the IFA for Aromatherapy and Massage.

Who should attend

Yoga teachers and practitioners who wish to explore the Oriental Energetic Map to broaden their understanding of the Energetic Layer of the body and the use of Qi Gong breathing/meditation and pressure points in a yin posture.

Prior completion of the IYTA Yin 1 as a weekend Workshop or via the correspondence online is strongly advised.

  • 2 hour open book written assessment (Certificate of Completion only)
