The Teacher Training
Course has graduated over
1030
teachers through its
Sydney-based and correspondence courses. The
course is of 12 months' duration and requires
attendance and participation by Sydney students
in 11 monthly weekends (8.45am to 5pm) plus a
5-day residential workshop. Correspondence
students receive tapes of Sydney lectures and
also attend a 5-day residential workshop in
Sydney. The course is available
to
residents of selected
overseas countries in the Australian
region.

TEACHER TRAINING COURSE
2008-2009
The curriculum comprises a
comprehensive range of subjects based on the
classical teachings and the practical
implementation of the concept of Yoga,
including:-
- History and traditions
of Yoga
- Introduction to
Classic Paths: Bhakti, Hatha, Karma and Raja
Yoga
- Ashtanga Yoga of
Patanjali; The Gunas
- Yamas and Niyamas;
Meditation
- General Philosophy of
Yoga; Sanskrit terms
- Anatomy and
Physiology; importance of the
breath
- Body
correction/movement; Yoga and
movement
- Bandhas, Kriyas,
Mudras; Chakras; Koshas
- Yoga asanas,
exercises; Pranayama
- Guidelines on
preparing and handling a class
- Handling various class
situations, students with
problems
- Yoga for children,
teenagers, seniors
- Yoga as an aid in
pregnancy, asthma, the handicapped, back
problems, etc.
- Relaxation
methods
- Communication skills;
setting up: surveying, tax matters, keeping
records, insurance, etc.
Lecturers are of the
highest calibre and topics include philosophy of
Yoga; Asanas, Pranayama, mudra, bandha and
meditation practice and benefits; preparation of
classes and how to present a general class,
classes for pregnant women, children, teenagers,
older people, osteoporosis and those with
special needs.
Student assessment is
ongoing and graduation from the Course is
determined by successful completion of monthly
assignments, two written examinations and a
practical assessment of the student teaching a
Yoga class.
The course fee includes
all notes and the 5-day residential. Students
from distant locations are offered a travel
rebate after the residential, provided all work
is up-to-date and satisfactory.
